Your jump start with Twitter
You probably have heard about twitter and how it made a big buzz in the internet. But have you signed up? If not, this article was written just for you.
Twitter is a free website that offers micro-blogging and social media services. It will let you post a 140-character message called tweets that can be viewed by other twitter users who follow you or those who subscribe to your tweets.
To start with, you go to www.twitter.com and sign up. Once you have successfully signed up, you are all set for your jumpstart. With the maximum of 140 characters, you can post whatever you want on twitter. Anything that you think about, your feelings, your opinions and ideas, you can post it on twitter to make it visible to the public.
But these tweets will be useless if you don’t have followers that will read it. So what you need to do is ask your friends, family, colleagues or acquaintances to follow you on Twitter by giving them your username or email address that you used when you signed up. In return, you have to follow them back for you to view their tweets in your home page once you are logged in. If you want to add more followers, you can do so by using the Find People menu on Twitter. You can browse through the categories set by twitter for you to find other interesting people that you can follow. Who knows they will follow you back also.
When you read something and you want to reply to that twitter user, you can hit Reply and write what your message to that someone. You can also do this if you tend to talk about that certain twitter user. Aside from that, you can also send a Direct Message to that twitter user if you want the conversation to be private.
To categorize your tweets, you can put “#” then the category name you wish to put that specific tweet. This is to organize all your tweets and be able to retrieve it back whenever you want to.
If you want to repost a tweet posted by someone you follow, you may do so by putting RT at the beginning of the tweet then copy and paste the tweet. Or you can hit Retweet located at the bottom of each tweet in your homepage.
When tweeting, think if that tweet will attract an interest to your followers. As much as possible, write your tweets as interesting as you can. Don’t just tweet so that you can tweet something. Remember, interesting tweets will attract more followers.
